"Ask, and it shall be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you." Matt 7:7 This is a thrice-given promise. By saying this, Jesus outlines no conditions except that we hunger for the Lord's mercy, desire His counsel, and long for His love. To ask shows that we realize our need. To seek shows that we not only long for His blessings but long for Him to fill us with His presence. God is seeking us, and we need to yield to the drawing of His Spirit. To knock means that we come to God at His invitation and are admitted into the closest intimacy with Him. So knock and wait at the door of mercy with firm assurance, for He will open the door and gladly receive you in.

He makes us understand His longing for us by comparing it to parents who love their children and are willing to do good to them. Would a loving parent turn away from a hungry child? But how much more does our heavenly Father love us, and He is willing to give the Holy Spirit to us when we ask Him. Should anyone dishonor God by imagining that He would not respond to the appeals of His children? With what wonderful tenderness Jesus has described the Father's love for us! Let us not forget that when we come to God as our Father, we acknowledge our relationship to Him as His child. We trust His goodness and yield to His will. His love for us is carved in the palms of the hands of His Son.  Words to Live By page 203 Jack Blanco
